We told you months ago that the 1996 box office smash ‘Independence Day’ was reportedly being rebooted for a tentative 2016 sequel, and now we can confirm some big casting news for the second installment which is definitely under way. ‘Entertainment Weekly’ has confirmed that Vivica A. Fox is set to return for the sequel which will center around the son of she and Will Smith’s characters. Vivica A. Fox has closed a deal with 20th Century Fox to reprise her role as Jasmine Dubrow in the upcoming action-thriller sequel Independence Day 2, EW has confirmed. Vivica also took to Twitter to spread the word.

Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, and Charlotte Gainsbourg have also been cast. In the 1996 original, Fox portrayed Jasmine, a single mother and girlfriend of Will Smith’s Steven Hiller.Roland Emmerich will be returning to helm Independence Day 2, with a script penned by Carter Blanchard. Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser will produce.
