Despite Major Backlash VH1 Quietly Announces New ‘Sorority Sisters’ Reality Show [First Look]

Sorority-Sisters

Earlier this year VH1 came under fire when it announced that there were plans for a new reality show ‘Sorority Sisters’ which would focus on a group a females from different fraternities and sororities. There was a trailer that hit the net and as soon as it did, backlash ensued and there was even a petition started to have VH1 pull the plug on the show.

Many didn’t like the idea of the history of sororities and fraternities being tarnished due to normal reality foolishness on other shows on the network such as ‘Love & Hip Hop’ and ‘Basketball Wives’ sure we love to watch those shows, but some felt like this was a new low and they weren’t having it.

Well the hype around it died down but now it appears not only did VH1 go on with their plans to film the show but it also has an official premiere date, and sooner than you think. The network just today unveiled first look trailers and the ‘Sorority Sisters’ show page on VH1’s site. The show was originally rumored to be anchored by ‘Love & Hip Hop’ creator Mona Scott Young but it looks as though that is not the case. According to the press release:

VH1 gives viewers a rare glimpse into the unique world of ATL Greek life with the series premiere of “Sorority Sisters”* on Monday, December 15 at 9:00 PM ET/PT. Nine women, who continue to honor the traditions and legacies of their respective sororities and chapters, all agree on one main principle: sisterhood doesn’t end after graduation, it’s for life. For these friends and sisters (or ‘sorors’) from celebrated historically black colleges and universities in Atlanta, strong ties to their organizations lead to fierce rivalries, but through thick and thin, these women stand united and share an unbreakable bond.

“Sorority Sisters” follows the lives of women from four different sororities. Since these ‘sorors’ are pledges for life, they are expected to continue their community work long after graduation. From long-awaited reunions, to managing the men in their lives, for these line sisters, it’s homecoming all across the ATL. These ladies have a lot at stake – their aspirations, reputations, livelihoods, friendships, and families – and the legacies of their sororities.

The show is set to premiere this coming Monday December 15 at 9 p.m. conveniently following the season 5 premiere of ‘Love & Hip Hop: New York’ check out the trailer below.
