Could Empire‘s Bryshere Gray aka Hakeem aka Yazz The Greatest & Singer Luke James be starring in the planned New Edition biopic? According to new reports, quite possibly.

I told you back in August of last year, that BET had greenlit the long awaited and delayed biopic surrounding iconic R&B/pop group New Edition, in the form of a three night biopic miniseries. Well now it looks like the film may have found its first two actors to compose the group in the film.

Via Singersroom, according to Frank Holder of Humor Mill Magazine, “Empire” star Bryshere Gray (Yazz/Hakeem) has scored the starring role as Michael Bivins in the forthcoming made-for-TV miniseries.

Along with Gray, they say that Luke James will play Johnny Gill, Evan Ross will portray Ronnie Devoe, Elijah Kelley has been cast as Ricky Bell, Algee Smith will be playing Ralph Tresvant, and Bobby McClain will play Bobby Brown. They also report that Chris Robinson is directing the film for BET.

According to previous reports, group members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant are all on board to co-produce the film, which will span across three nights in a miniseries. Production is reported to begin this Spring 2016.

This film has been on my list of biopics that must be made, for years now! Glad to see that its underway and the cast is forming!
