on Jan. 17, Lifetime will bring Whitney Houston’s journey to life in Whitney, the network’s new Hollywood biopic that stars Yaya DaCosta as Whitney, vocals done by singer Deborah Cox and directed by Angela Bassett.

The film which has received much scrutiny will chronicle the iconic singers rise to fame from being in the church choir in Newark, New Jersey to becoming one of the best selling female artist and biggest stars of all time. We’ve seen teasers and stills but now comes the official trailer, and based on the visual its apparent that there is nothing that was left out of this film including her reported struggles with substance abuse and her tumultuous marriage to R&B bad boy Bobby Brown.

The film doesn’t premiere on Lifetime until Jan 17 at 8/7C but you can check out the trailer below
