As if the Tanger Outlets weren’t enough to bring to the thriving National Harbor, MD, now comes another addition that is estimated to attract upwards of 800k visitors annually and add more value to the already attractive Harbor and DMV overall. According to Fox 5 DC:

Get ready to get a sky high view of the D.C. area from National Harbor. In May, the 175-foot-tall Ferris wheel known as The Capital Wheel will open, giving riders a chance to soar above the Potomac River for views of the Capitol, the White House, and beyond– at a price tag of $15 million to build and $15 per ride.

Riders will climb on board one of 42 glass, climate-controlled gondola.  Between six and eight people can fit into each gondola.

Developers say the ride will last about 12-15 minutes, and cost about $15.

The Capital Wheel is expected to attract 600,000 to 800,000 visitors annually. It’s an attraction that is similar to what Seattle, Atlanta and London already have. Out of those three, the one in our area will be tied with Seattle for the shortest.  It will be less than half the size of the London Eye, which stands 443 feet high.  Atlanta’s new SkyView is 200 feet tall.

From the top you will be able to see monuments like the Washington Monument, the capital as well as Old Town Alexandria and of course, the Potomac.

According to their website, the attraction will be available for public, corporate and private events as well, and seasonal catering will be offered by Wolfgang Puck.

Construction for the wheel is officially underway, and it is expected to be open to the public in May.
