Forbes caught quite a bit of flack this week for an article they posted titled “Hip Hop Is Run By A White, Blonde, Australian Woman.”  which centered around Hip Hop’s current it girl Iggy Azalea. Iggy who has been on the come up for about three years now just dropped her debut album ‘New Classic’ which has shifted over 105, 000 units since its April 22 release and her single ‘Fancy’ is skating towards the platinum mark.

Perhaps this is what prompted the magazine to post the article which declared that Iggy currently runs Hip Hop and even jabbed at Nicki Minaj who they referred to as “absent”. Peep a quote from the article which has since changed its title to “Hip Hop’s Unlikely New Star” below:

Iggy isn’t the first woman to find success in the genre, but she is the latest and currently the only one representing the gender on the charts. For the past several years, Nicki Minaj has been the prominent woman in hip hop, but it seems there has been a change. Not only has Minaj been oddly quiet for months, she has said she will no longer be releasing radio-ready pop/hip hop blends, instead going back to her pure rap roots, leaving a void to be filled by none other than Iggy.

Forbes and its contributor Hugh McIntyre who penned the eye brow raising article received much backlash for the post  which some found debatable, while others found it just blatantly outrageous, out of line and way off base.

Well Nicki Minaj herself called into Power 105’s ‘The Breakfast Club’ to promote her new single ‘Pills N Potions’ and addressed Forbes for their statements. Nicki also talked about the new album and going back to her natural look and roots, but not trying to label the music she is making as “hard core” rap vs. “pop”.  Listen to what she had to say about it below.
