Posted August 16, 2018

The “Queen of Soul” has gone on to the Kingdom today, as widely reported, Aretha Frankin died at 9:50 a.m.  on Thursday (August 16) at her home in Detroit, surrounded by family and friends, according to a statement on behalf of Franklin’s family from her longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn.

She was 76. The “official cause of death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit,” the family statement said.

The world is mourning the loss and celebrating the legacy of an icon who has inspired a generation and legion of performers with her timeless music and deep rooted messages. Today, we pay homage with one of our favorite Aretha tracks as our Throwback Thursday via the 1998 hit ‘A Rose Is Still A Rose‘ from her 37th studio album of the same name.
