VH1’s ‘Sorority Sisters’ Just Might Be Getting Axed After All Following Five Advertisers Pulling Out

Sororsisters

We told you days ago how VH1 quietly tried to sneak the premiere of their new reality show ‘Sorority Sisters‘ into their winter lineup. The show drew a lot of criticism this summer when it was announced and many started and signed petitions to get the show pulled and as the chatter slowly went away over the summer, VH1 abruptly added the show to their lineup this past Monday following the premiere of ‘Love & Hip Hop: New Yorl’ season 5.

Well despite them thinking they could brush over the petitions and backlash which resurrected following Monday’s airing, VH1 has another thing coming. The airing brought a whole new slew of outrage from viewers who felt the show was a negative representation of Greek sorority life.

The show which centers around nine women representing Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta highlighted more drama, bickering and negative stereotypes according to many viewers than it did positive.

Even K. Michelle who is a Delta, spoke out this week as we previously showed you. K called the show inappropriate and said she would not support it despite the fact that every show she has appeared on has been on VH1.

“It’s not appropriate. I love Mona [Scott-Young], I love Vh1 to death, they are all my family. But I’m not a fake person and in my belief, that should have never been touched. Some things should be sacred for us, especially at a time when our Black communities are struggling with so many things. The sororities and fraternities are the one thing we look forward to in college that uplift the community. Things aren’t peaches and cream but everything doesn’t need to be exposed when it comes to that.

I am a Delta, I have acted a fool on TV but at the same time, I didn’t do it with the Delta Sigma Theta tatted on my back in front of people. It’s not an excuse for anything that I might’ve done on TV but at the end of the day we are all human. But you don’t get on TV in the name of women that came before us and do what you’re doing. Absolutely, I have no respect for those women. They can get mad if they want to- I don’t care. I don’t plan on watching that. I don’t plan on supporting that. I will support them as sisters. I will support their businesses. But when you represent a whole brand and you are talking about this brand on TV, it is not appropriate.

Where I’m from and where we pledge, you weren’t even allowed to drink. You weren’t even- you’re not allowed to throw up those symbols while you’re drinking. So not only are you guys throwing up symbols and drinking and going against how we were pledged and brought in, you guys are fighting and cursing with the letters on your back. It’s not appropriate!”

Well now after social media blasted the show, VH1 and Mona Scott Young who is alleged to have been the maestro behind the show although its not clear because she is not listed as part of the executive producers. Following the slamming on social media VH1 advertisers have now heard the outrage and are taking it very seriously and multiple advertisers have announced that they will be taking their advertising dollars elsewhere. Peep the list of companies below who have backed out financially due to the pressure, we are sure many more are to come which will leave VH1 with no choice but to cancel the show.

Carmex: Carmex does not endorse or represent any particular content on television. After our investigation into the new program, however, we are in process of pulling our ad dollars from VH-1.

We’ll be pulling our ads from VH1 until the program is pulled in order to join our voice with many of our customers.

Hallmark: Our commercials appeared as part of a larger buy on VH1. We aren’t planning to air commercials in future episodes.

JBL Audio: JBL had ads on VH1 during a generic ad buy. We’ve asked VH1 to ensure our ads don’t run on this show in the future.

Crayola: We understand your concerns & thank you for sharing your thoughts. We do not plan to air our commercials on future episodes.

Honda: We appreciate your feedback. Honda does not support the views expressed on this show and we have pulled our ads.
