Following Kirk Franklin’s public apology to the LGBT community on behalf of the church earlier this week, now Erica Campbell has opened up on her views as it pertains to the conversation of homosexuality and the church.

During a promo round in London this week, the Mary Mary singer sat down with various UK based outlets to answer their questions, and she was hit with a good one in the very beginning of her run. After being asked her thoughts on the current climate of LGBT issues and the church, Erica revealed:

“I believe sin is sin and it exists and God forgives it just like everything else. I think our responsibility is to keep singing about Jesus. Keep telling the world he loves, saves, transforms and heals. I know there’s a lot of different conversations about the origins and the why’s and the how’s and I wish I had the answers to it, but I do not. But what I do know is that the Bible says that God so loved the world — it didn’t say the heterosexual or the homosexual; it didn’t say the Christian, the saved or the unsaved. It said for God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whosoever should believe in him, should not parish but have everlasting life. So that’s the only thing I can stay confident in. I rest on the word of God. I stand on the word of God. And we will all stand before him. And God won’t ask me my opinion. He won’t ask the people their opinion. We’ll have a one-on-one with the father.

Keep sharing, keep loving, keep opening the doors of our churches, keep embracing and let God do the changing. I think a lot of times we try to be God. We try to make the change. Everybody has an issue. Sometimes peoples [issue] is a little more flamboyant than others. Maybe yours is lying and we can’t see your issue. We all have something to work on…My job is to love, not to judge.”

  1. Michael A. Campbell says:

What about the rest of that Scripture?

John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. 18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”
