It looks like TLC better get ready for those slumber parties, photo shoots, lunches, autograph signings, movie dates, personal phone calls and other rewards they promised fans for contributing to the kickstarter campaign to fund their fifth and final album because as of late Wednesday evening the ladies have exceeded their goal of raising $150,000.

We told you just Monday that Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins and Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas had launched the initiative to get their new album off the ground and the donations would go toward studio time, writing, engineers and other recording expenses. The fundraiser had a 30 day goal to reach the $150k and with in less than 72 hours they not only met their goal but exceeded it clocking in $157,719 at the time of posting.

Early Wednesday it was revealed that one of their biggest fans singer/songwriter Katy Perry had contributed $5,000 of her own money toward the effort, not to mention their endless number of fans worldwide who put up thousands of dollars each in many cases to help their girls.

Upon hearing the news both T-Boz and Chilli took to Twitter to thank everyone for their support and were clearly overwhelmed by the large number of donations in such a short time.

T-Boz also revealed via Twitter that there will be more prizes added as many were limited to a certain amount per donation. The feat is a major accomplishment and speaks volumes to the impact that the ladies have made on their fans, so much so that over 20 years later they will still come out of their pockets (literally) to support the women who have given them years of great music, trends, fashion and memories.

As previously announced TLC is heading out on tour this summer with New Kids on The Block, and rapper Nelly for ‘The Main Event’ tour, which will see the three acts trek across 40-plus cities in the U.S. and Canada starting May 1 in Las Vegas. Tickets can be purchased starting January 31. NKOTB have reportedly also donated $10,000 toward TLC’s kickstart campaign.

With 28 days remaining for the fundraiser, it’s only to be expected that the funds will continue to come in heavily and take the duo well over their initial budget, and help secure a solid plan of action for this album and its release. Kudos to the ladies on reaching their goal and also changing the game for independent artists with this initiative which we are sure more artists will begin to use.
