Remy Ma is once again a free woman.
Manhattan prosecutors dropped their case against the rapper on Monday (Dec. 2) and she is now completely off the hook for an alleged assault that went down with her ‘Love & Hip Hop’ co-star earlier this year.
via New York Daily News:
Ma, 39, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, faced assault and other related charges for allegedly punching her VH-1 “Love & Hip Hop” co-star Brittney Taylor, 30, at a benefit concert at Irving Plaza in April.
Prosecutors said conflicting evidence in the case and accounts of the night’s events provided by witnesses unaffiliated with Smith or Taylor raised one question too many and made their case impossible to prove.
“After a thorough, months-long investigation, the people are moving to dismiss this case,” said Assistant District Attorney Juan Maldonado. “We cannot prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Maldonado said one eyewitness reported that Smith was inside the Union Square venue’s green room when the alleged assault went down and at no point saw the two women together.
Further, the prosecutor said the only person corroborating Taylor’s account was no longer cooperating with investigators.
The Bronx-bred rapper, wearing a pink and yellow faux fur coat, walked out of Manhattan Criminal Court with a big smile on her face following the brief proceeding.
“I wish they would have come to this conclusion before I had an ankle bracelet and lost months and months of wages and had a curfew,” she said. “Before I paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a lawyer.”
Remy took to Instagram to celebrate the news following the dismissal.
