Amanda Seales has never been one to bite her tongue, and she’s also had her fair share of controversial stories and headlines over her career.
Now, the industry vet is opening up like never before, coming clean with her side of some industry drama that she’s experienced, and addressing a long-running smear campaign that she says has been aimed at her.
By now you’ve likely seen clips from her viral sit-down with Shannon Sharpe for his Club Shay Shay podcast released on Wednesday (April 24).
In the lengthy 3-hour clip, Seales addressed a long-standing rumor of a feud with her former boss and co-star Issa Rae, and reports that there were issues with her and cast members during their time on ‘Insecure.’
Issa revealed that while she came into the show with pure intentions and hopes of creating “community” with Issa, and her co-stars, she was reportedly greeted with resistance, and shade from Issa and others.
She further detailed how things on set ultimately got worse after an ongoing issue with Issa Rae’s publicist, led to her not being allowed to a gathering at the Black Emmy Party in 2019.
She recalled how the situation escalated and resulted in a humiliating experience which turned into her being “assaulted” by security at the event.
Seales revealed that the experience was solely at the hands of Issa’s publicist who then allegedly started a “smear campaign” against her.
This furthered the complicated relationship between Seales and Issa Rae, which she said she tried to repair but to no avail, and now says she is tired of protecting the ‘Insecure’ creator when she never gave her the same protection.
It has always been incredibly important to me to protect Issa. Because I know Issa is doing something within this business that so few people get to do. … I know her role is very important and so I’ve always protected Issa. However, there’s been enough instances at this point where I should’ve been protected by Issa and I wasn’t.” –

Amanda Seales: I disagree. She wasn't empowering to me. She didn't feel like I deserved to be protected. pic.twitter.com/1179uKhhNT
