After months of speculation, Ashanti has confirmed that she is expecting her first child with boyfriend, Nelly.
The singer confirmed the news on Wednesday (April 17) via a video teaser posted to her Instagram that shows her preparing to hit the stage for a major venue performance.
As the crowd chants for her to come out, her team scurries backstage to get her out on time leaving her team and sister to ask “How much time do you need?”

The Pregnancy rumors started in December when Ashanti appeared on stage with a seemingly fuller belly which beau, and Nelly rubbed in front of the audience.
While the couple never made the official announcement, Ashanti’s mom Tina Douglas had to address a host attempting to bait her into confirming the pregnancy a few weeks ago.
While appearing on a panel at the 17th Annual Women’s Impact Luncheon at Jazz in the Gardens in Miami Gardens, 99Jamz radio personality Supa Cindy– congratulated the “Baby” singer on having a baby, and Douglas took no time to set the record straight.
“Congratulations, Ashanti’s having a baby. So congratulations, grandma,” said Cindy in the video that was reposted by The Shade Room.
“There’s been no announcement. It hasn’t come out yet until I hear it from Ashanti and Nelly,” Douglas responded .
“Oh, I thought it was public. My bad, sorry,” the host replied.
“No, it is public,” said Douglas. “Don’t get it twisted, but it hasn’t been officially announced.”
Following the announcement, Ashanti shared an exclusive statement with ESSENCE exclusively.
“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience”
