The highly anticipated battle between Babyface and Teddy Riley, which started on Saturday but was postponed due to technical difficulty on Teddy’s side, officially happened on Monday night on Instagram.
The initial Saturday battle drew in over 1 million fans trying to join the live, only for it to be canceled, so when it was rescheduled for Monday night at 8 pm, the stakes were even higher.
The song battle which was organized by super producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, reportedly brought in over 4 million fans trying to join the live. So many people that only about 500k were allowed to actually view it while others “waiting in line” received error messages that the live was not available.
Alas, for those lucky enough to get into the “room” the battle went on, and certainly made up for the mishaps that occurred on Sunday.
While Monday’s showing came with its own set of challenges including connection issues due to Instagram, and problems with chargers and WiFi over on Teddy’s end–by most accounts, it was worth the wait and the shenanigans.
The anticipation and excitement for the live were so high that the demand and everyone rushing to the site caused it to shut down. Teddy and Babyface officially broke Instagram!
After being booted off the live after their second hour, when the pair tried to reconnect for the third hour, they were unable to do so due to Instagram limiting the connection. Both tried to connect from their respective pages but were given “unable to connect” messages.
Swizz Beatz took to IG to confirm.
Teddy also took to IG on Tuesday to celebrate their victory.
