It’s been a minute since I’ve done a ‘Bangers’ post but this week I was inspired by a female artist who we all know and love and has a new album ‘Code Red’ on the way in a matter of weeks. R&B singer Monica has been getting some major spins on my playlist the past week with her pretty solid catalog but it’s some of the material that fans may or may not be familiar with that really gets me.

Everyone remembers her 2003 hit album ‘After The Storm’ which spawned the mega hits ‘So Gone’, ‘Should’ve Known Better’, and ‘Knock Knock’. You may also remember that the album, which was her fourth was her first to ever go number one on Billboard Hot 200 album charts and sold a whopping 186,000 copies in its first week.

What you may not remember is that album had a bonus disc available exclusively through select vendors which featured some bonus material not everyone would get with the standard purchase. One of those songs on that disc has become one of my favorite Monica songs ever, and one of my favorite sexy slow jams–the Lashawn Daniels crafted ‘Down 4 Whatever‘. Bonus: Monica had another under the radar gem with her 2006 album ‘The Makings of Me‘ which was the follow up to ‘After The Storm’. The entire album was a great body of work but failed to live up to the critical acclaim of its predecessor but it wasn’t due to the project not being solid.

There were several stand out tracks but here is another slow ‘Banger’ that I love! ‘My Everything‘ (not to be confused with ‘Everything To Me’)
