It was announced last week that Aaliyah‘s full catalog is finally coming to streaming platforms and will be available for physical purchase as well starting this month.
The news came after years of fans’ cries for her Uncle and label head, Barry Hankerson to release her catalog, and several statements from the Estate of the late singer, saying that the catalog would be made available.
Now, Hankerson is sitting down for his first interview in years to clear up some of the rumors and misconceptions surrounding his label, Aaliyah’s catalog, and his issues with Aaliyah’s estate (which is run by Aaliyah’s mom, Diane, and brother, Rashad).
Hankerson reveals that he and his sister, Diane are not in a good place, and haven’t been since the death of Aaliyah in 2001. He also says that the years of fans’ criticism online and blaming him for her catalog not being available for so long have weighed down on him and that they only know part of the story.
He even gets emotional when he recounts his biggest regret, which he says is having Aaliyah film the ‘Rock The Boat’ music video, which was her last.
