The 2022 American Music Awards are going down tonight (Nov. 20) and as the stars begin to show up and show out on the red carpet for the big night, there is one superstar we won’t see in attendance.
Chris Brown is bowing out of Sunday’s show after revealing that he was set to perform on the show as part of a tribute to Michael Jackson that he says was canceled last minute with no explanation.
Breezy took to Instagram on Friday night sharing footage from rehearsals for his tribute to the King of Pop commemorating the 40th anniversary of ‘Thriller.’ He opened the dance-heavy set with his own current hit “Under the Influence” before sliding into a medley of MJ hits like “Beat It,” “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” “Billie Jean,” and “Thriller.”
“U SERIOUS?” WOULDVE been the ama performance but they cancelled me for reasons unknown” he shared as his caption.
No official word on why the performance was canceled so abruptly but fans are calling for a boycott of the show entirely. Breezy is also nominated for Favorite Male R&B Artist at this year’s AMAs but will not be in attendance.
Other previously-announced performers for Sunday’s show include Lil Baby, GloRilla, Ari Lennox, and more.
