We told you recently about the planned bio pic on Whitney Houston which is set to air on Lifetime network in 2015, and despite the family disapproval with the plans the network appears to be moving forward and the lead role has just been announced. According to reports from TVLine.com former ‘America’s Next Top Model’ season 3 runner up Yaya DaCosta is set to play the iconic singer.

The TV-movie will chronicle Houston’s volatile relationship with singer-songwriter Bobby Brown during her meteoric rise to musical super stardom.

Since making her television debut in Cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model, Yaya has gone on to score recurring roles on shows including All My Children, Ugly Betty and House. She’s also had big-screen success, most recently coming off a role in Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

As previously reported Angela Bassett will be orchestrating the film in her directorial debut.
