Earlier this year, Dwyane Wade and wife Gabrielle Union made headlines when they publicly voiced their support for their gay son after he attended Miami Pride this Spring.
Although Dwyane couldn’t be there in person, he sent lots of heartfelt messages to his son, including one that read: “Wish I was there to see you smile kid!”
Since then, he’s been very vocal about supporting his son and advocating for the LGBTQ community as a whole.
“I think as a family, we should support each other,” he said. “That’s our job. And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do.”
He even encouraged parents of LGBTQ kids to do better with understanding and supporting their kids.
“Get to know them and where they are. I have to say to most parents, get to know your kids. Don’t put your wants and needs on them.”
Now the family is furthering their mission of advocating for LGBTQ equality by launching a line of inclusive t-shirts and even released a family-themed photoshoot to promote the line.
Gabrielle took to Instagram to share the snap and info on the initiative.
As a family, we believe inclusion and equality are two essential pillars needed to move towards growth and progressive thinking and action in our society. We have created a Limited Edition T shirt to help create a more inclusive space with our platform.
The Wade family and @yngdna have decided to donate $50k and 50% of the proceeds of sales of the Pride shirts to The GLSEN organization whose mission strives to ensure safe schools for all students, regardless of sexual orientation as well as gender identity. For 25 years GLSEN has been the leading national organization focused on ensuring safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ+ students
