Yancey Edward’s gifted hands are behind some of the best and most healthiest hair on television. You can see his work everyday on ABC’s long-running hit show The View. When he’s not helping those four ladies look their best he’s busy flying cross country to primp and prime Hollywood A-listers. Let’s take an in-depth look at the man with the midas touch.
1. Hometown
I’m originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., but I now reside in East Orange, NJ. That is also where I operate my private studio when I’m not busy doing television.
2. Where did your passion for hair come from?
My passion comes from a long line of people in my life that were hairstylist. Even as a child I was always intrigued by beauty. One day while at my bestfriend’s house I said you know if I die tomorrow I can’t say I’ve accomplished anything so, that September I enrolled in hair school thinking I was gonna be a barber. But things changed simply because in the state of N.J. you have to know male and female hair. Things were starting to line up for me, but never even paid much attention because I was loving it. Everyday was something new!
Healthy hair is a part of a healthy lifestyle everything you put in your mouth comes out of your hair. For example if you don’t drink enough water your hair may tend to be dry or if you’re on medication (ex. high blood pressure) 9 times outta 10 you may experience hair issues.
YOU CAN MAINTAIN A STYLE, BUT YOU NEED A PROFESSIONAL TO MAINTAIN THE HEALTH OF YOUR HAIR. That means regular visits keep your ends trimmed, deep conditioners and treatments when needed and no at home relaxers, and chemical services that is for professional use only.
I love Redken, Nairobi and Mizani. There are some small hair companies that have amazing products such as The Edge Beauty, Jass Hair and Basic Haircare Systems.
Behind the scenes at The View is hectic and my job is very important. If they don’t feel pretty, it’s a problem, so I make sure I listen to their wants and then I give them the reality. Being the go to person in the hair department is a major accomplishment. I’m blessed that I can multitask. I style Jenny Mccarthy, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd. I also do some special projects for Barbara Walters. So any given day I’ll do extensions, locks, wigs or a simple blow dry. So depending on my day, I can be doing a commercial or a guest co-host so my hands are full and all this for 1 hour show.
Wow tough question…Rihanna, Adele, J.Lo, Ciara, Fantasia, Jenny Mccarthy, Taraji P. Henson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and First Lady Michelle Obama.
One of the biggest achievements is working on The View that alone amazes me!
