Lil Nas X has just cemented his place in the music history books, as his crossover hit smash ‘Old Town Road‘ just became the longest running No.1 song in Billboard Hot 100 chart history.
The news comes on Monday (July 29), as the rap-singer has rode his horse to the top of the charts for a historic 17 weeks! and broke the record for the longest running No. 1 in the chart’s six-decade history after he dethroned the previous spot holders.
Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s collaboration “One Sweet Day” and Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito (Remix),” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 in 1995/1996 and 2017, respectively.
The news also comes after the rapper was previously denied entry onto the Billboard country charts and country music fans had called for a boycott of his song. Lil Nas X later teamed up with Billy Ray Cyrus to secure the ‘Old Town Road’ (Remix) which took the song to the next level and has remained on the charts for months now.
Nas also broke a record previously held by Drake’s “In My Feelings” for most streams in one week in the U.S.
