Je’Caryous Johnson is debuting his new stage play, ‘Jason’s Lyric – Live!’ inspired by the 1994 film, and it will feature some of the original cast.
The cult classic will tell the story of a man haunted by his past and a guarded woman who must fight for their love and future amidst the challenges of family, betrayal, and dark forces in the gritty streets of Houston.
The stage play will feature Allen Payne, and Treach who starred in the original romantic psychological drama film.
Eva Marcille, K. Michelle, Tyrin Turner, and more will also star in the production which kicks off in 2025.
The original film was written by Bobby Smith Jr., and directed by Doug McHenry, who co-produced the film with George Jackson and Marilla Lane Ross and starred Payne, Treach, Jada Pinkett, Bokeem Woodbine, Eddie Griffin, Lahmard Tate, Lisa Nicole Carson, and Forest Whitaker
The touring stage play will hit cities such as Houston, LA, Chicago, DC, NY, Atlanta, and more kicking off in Houston, TX at the The Hobby Center – Sarofim Hall on February 13, 2025.
The show will wrap with five shows on May 9-11 in Dallas, TX with the location TBA.
