Wildly popular food critic, Keith Lee is on his nationwide food tour, and on Monday (Dec.18) he stopped by ‘The Breakfast Club’ while in New York.
For his first major interview, Lee detailed becoming famous for his viral reviews of food local independent restaurants that are struggling nationwide. A feat that he says he did not predict he would be doing as he suffers from social anxiety.
Lee also dished on being a former MMA fighter who was just on food stamps last year before beginning his career as a social media food critic and amassing over 1.6 million followers on Instagram alone.
He opened up about his review of a Las Vegas restaurant nine months ago that kicked off his career, how he chooses the restaurants he will review, negative feedback he’s received from some of his own critics, turning down TV deal opportunities, and more.
Elsewhere, he revealed why he turned down an invite from Kandi Burruss several weeks ago to review her OLG restaurant in Atlanta.
The invite came after the staff gave him preferential treatment just minutes after telling his family (unbeknownst to the OLG staff) that there was a 2-hour wait to be seated. This prompted him to leave her restaurant and Kandi to apologize to him and his family online and extended another invite back which he declined.
Keith also gets into a small debate with DJ Envy over the host calling Lee a “ghetto food critic.”
