Lauryn Hill has just clocked in a major accomplishment, one that none of her female Hip Hop counterparts has yet to accomplish.
Her 1998 debut album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ has now sold over 10,000,000 units; making her the first female rapper to have a diamond album in history.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced the news on Tuesday evening (Feb. 16).

When the project arrived on August 28, 1998 it was thrust to the top of the charts thanks to hit singles “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Everything Is Everything” and “Ex-Factor.”
The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with over 422,624 copies sold within its first week, breaking the previous record for first-week sales by a female artist.
Months later, she went on to snag an impressive 10 nominations at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards, the highest any female had received in one night at the time. She went on to take home 5 that night.
Despite recent years of not so favorable headlines, her recent feat proves why her name will continue to be cemented in the history books.
Congrats to Ms. Hill.
