For months there have been rumblings that there were some changes coming to HBO Max with some of our fave shows due to some recent reworkings at the network due to an upcoming merger with Discovery+.
Well, now it’s been confirmed that a few fan-fave shows are officially being cut from programming including the wildly popular ballroom competition show, ‘Legendary.’
It comes after it emerged that FBoy Island was canceled after two seasons.
Similar to the Nikki Glaser-fronted dating series, Legendary is a relatively expensive show for a streaming service that pulled out of original unscripted orders earlier this summer. At the time, the streamer noted that while it wasn’t ordering any new unscripted originals, it would consider renewing existing shows but FBoy Island and Legendary are more expensive than the David Zaslav-run company would like to spend on unscripted shows.
It’s also a blow for diversity in unscripted programming as Legendary was one of the most inclusive reality shows on air and praised by GLAAD.
The first season premiered in May 2020, the second season launched in May 2021 and the third season aired in May 2022.

The cuts don’t stop there!
According to reports, Issa Rae‘s hit reality show ‘The Sweet Life: Los Angeles’ (which is one of our faves) is also being canceled.
The series kicked off its first season back in August of 2021 and centered around a group of Black friends in their 20s and early 30s, living in South Los Angeles and documented as they navigate their respective businesses, dating, relationships, friendships, and building black wealth.
The show was a huge success for the network which prompted a quick renewal, and season 2 premiered in August of this year. Fans speculated there was something going on behind the scenes, as there was no season 2 reunion taped and no word of one. The news was later confirmed by cast member, Tylynn Burns.

According to TheJasmineBrand, the show:
“the team is finding another home for it.”
As fans of both shows and specifically ‘The Sweet Life’ we certainly hope they get a second chance at another network or streamer ASAP.
