Lil Nas X is taking the music world by storm.
As of last week, “Old Town Road” had taken the title as the no. 1 song on the Billboard charts for over 13 weeks, surpassing some thick competition from artist/songs that have held the title for years including Brandy and Monica’s ‘The Boy Is Mine.’
Well now in it’s 14th consecutive week at no. 1, the country rap song is tied with seven other titles as the second-longest-running No. 1 hit in U.S. history. Those songs include: Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” Los Del Rio’s “Macarena,” Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love to You,” Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind 1997” / “Something About the Way You Look Tonight,” Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together,” the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.”
Only two songs have outlasted 14 weeks atop the Hot 100, and both reigned for exactly 16 weeks: the Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men mega-ballad “One Sweet Day” (1995-96), and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” (2017).
Once Lil Nas X learned that he and Mariah Carey were neck and neck, he took the opportunity to propose a collaboration–specifically a remix to “Old Town Road.”

Shortly after his tweet on Friday, MC took to Twitter as well and co-signed his idea.
