Fans of music titan Beyonce are in for a big treat, as it was just announced today(Aug 7) that the singer is set to be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards live from Inglewood, Calif. on Sunday, Aug. 24.
In addition to the award, Bey has eight MTV nominations this year, including “Video of the Year,” “Best Female” and “Best Choreography.”
Past recipients of the award include Michael Jackson,Madonna, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears and last year’s recipient Justin Timberlake, who reunited on stage with his band mates of N’Sync as part of his 8 minute long performance. Since Bey is also scheduled to perform we can expect that her set will be equally as long and a showstopper like none other.
This will be Beyonce’s fourth time performing at the VMAs. She joins a growing list of performers for the event, which includes Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, and Usher who was originally rumored to be the top contender for this year’s MJ Award (long overdue).
Bey made history on the VMA stage back in 2011 when she revealed to the world that she was pregnant when she unveiled her fully belly and sent the crowd wild at the end of her performance. We’re sure this VMA will be another historic moment for the Queen Bey. Check out the official promo spot below.
