Following the bold and fearless Jidenna speaking out against misconceptions and homophobia regarding the gay community in African and Black cultures, now actor Malik Yoba is also taking a stand for the LGBTQ+ community as it relates to our transgender sisters and brothers.
In a lengthy social media message, the 51-year-old actor took to Instagram to weigh in on the tragic suicide of Maurice “Reese” Willoughby— a young man who made headlines just a few weeks ago after he endured extensive bullying when someone leaked a clip of him being taunted and berated for dating a trans woman. The troublesome clip went viral which resulted in Willoughby committing suicide.
Malik re-posted the clip of Maurice that went viral, expressing his opinion on his death, and expressing that black folks (specifically men) need to step away from the oppressive behavior in our community that was inflicted on Maurice.
Malik also announced that he himself is “trans attracted” and will be participating in the upcoming National Trans March in DC. Get into it below.
