Marlon Wayans is not stopping his grind, and is opening up like never before and wants to help families with his next comedy special.
The famed actor/comedian has announced that he is doing his fourth stand-up comedy special, ‘Good Grief’–which is being filmed over two sold-out nights at the legendary Apollo Theater.
Discussing the meaning behind the special, Marlon reveals he’s lost over 57 people in his life over the past few years and the event will focus on the “grief” he experienced, good and bad.
He also revealed that he is working on a fifth stand-up special titled ‘Rainbow Child’ that will touch on his relationship with his child who identifies as trans, and the journey he has been through as a parent with his trans son.
He says the goal of the stand-up will be to inspire other families to be advocates, accepting, and loving to their LGBTQ family and to move away from ignorance, denial, and stereotypes that plague our community:
“I have a daughter that transitioned into a son. My daughter Amai is now Kai.”
“I just want my kids to be free. I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves. The more you know yourself, the more you can govern yourself; the more you live your truth, the happier your existence. So, if they can’t get that in the household with their father and their mother, who the f*ck do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence? And I’m just so proud of them for being them.”
“My transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance.
I think there’s a lot of parents out there who need to have that message, and I know I’m dealing with it. [It’s been] a very painful situation for me, but it’s one of the best, funniest hours [of comedy] I could ever imagine.”
