Following last year’s VH1’s ‘Hip Hop Honors‘ where the Queens of Hip Hop such as Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Lil’ Kim, and two-time honoree, Missy Elliott, were recognized, now the network is switching up the format just a little for their 2017 celebration.
This year, ‘Hip Hop Honors: The ’90s Game Changers‘ is the theme and will feature a ’90s-style block’ party hosted by Regina Hall. The celebration will take place on Sept. 17 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood and air on Sept. 18 at 9 p.m. The show is also set to recognize the victims of the hurricanes that have devastated the country.
It has been announced that Mariah Carey and Martin Lawrence are the first two honorees for the big show, while Missy Elliott is set to open the show as the first confirmed performer with many more to be announced. The timing is perfect as Martin is celebrating the 25 year anniversary of his hit sitcom ‘Martin‘ which is still in heavy syndication til this day.
“Anytime anyone wants to recognize you for your work, it’s an honor. I am looking forward to a really great night of fun and music,” says Lawrence in a statement to Billboard.
