Something fishy is in the water over at New York radio station Hot 97. After years of service, legendary DJ and host Angie Martinez abruptly resigned today. What is most puzzling is the way in which Ang departed. Only taking to her Instagram to address the issue, there was no prior announcement that Angie would be leaving, nor was there any clue today on the air that she was leaving, no star studded send off… NOTHING!

Angie revealed her departure via IG:

“Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show stay tuned…. Love, angie”

Although Angie nor the station gave specifics, they did issue a statement thanking her for her 20 years of service to the groundbreaking hip hop station:

“She exemplified professionalism and passion for music,”  “We thank her deeply for her commitment to hip hop, radio, and broadcasting.”

 As fans of Angie we are curious to know exactly what happened behind the scenes to trigger her departure and also find out what she has planned next. With her legacy and talent we are sure she will be back to work in no time.
