Darrel Walls, a member of popular gospel quartet The Walls Group, went viral this past weekend after an intimate video intended to be shared with only his “close friends” began circulating on social media.
In the clip, Walls (who up until this point was believed to be heterosexual), is seen kissing an unidentified man who is believed to be his partner/boyfriend.
Following the release of the video, Darrel was bombarded with tons of messages and comments underneath various pics on his Instagram prompting him to delete the page entirely.
While his IG is gone, fans and critics alike took to Twitter to express their various opinions and while many were bashing the singer–he also has many rallying around him.
Get into some of it below.
I support you Darrel Walls 💯 We deserve to love who we want to love. You are gifted & anointed and deserve happiness. The black church is toxic and delusional and they will try to discredit and drag you but the gay community loves and supports you 🏳️🌈💙👨❤️💋👨👬🏾#lovewins #DarrelWalls pic.twitter.com/yPJPM4ydkB

Kierra Sheard and all the other Gospel artists in Darrel Walls’s comments talking about they love and are there for him, but be on every record praying against the “perversion” and “spirit” of “homosexuality.” it’s the cognitive dissonance for me.

I’ll be damned if the Black church does Darrel Walls how they did Tonex! Not when they’re making excuses for John Gray cheating on his wife every week because she won’t cook him a pot roast.

I hope Darrel Walls is surrounded by the love and support he needs. What was done to him was vile and no one deserves that.

Christians will defend John gray and jamal Bryant to the death and be the same ones lashing out at Darrel walls. Prime example of why so many young black folks are fed up and disengaged with the black church. I pray he finds peace and love during all of this.

If only the black church was as loud about the child sex abuse and infidelity of their heterosexual members as they are about consenting adults showing affection. I hope y’all leave darrel walls alone. pic.twitter.com/KivGiESRAL

The virtue and anointing Darrel Walls operates under cannot suddenly disappear because folks are aware he has a male lover. So, either the church girls be faking OR God DOES have his hands on folks who aren’t cis-het. Where we at, baby? pic.twitter.com/LKYz64RP7i

Most of the popular guys in the black church are gay and or bisexual, even if they are married with children. Everyone knows this yet pretend otherwise so I’m not sure why Darrel Walls is getting all of this heat. The black church thrives because of black LGBT people, accept it.

I know some people are up in arms about Darrel from the walls being gay… but ima keep it 100. Half the gospel singers out right now are gay pic.twitter.com/dMHngWdYBT

It’s funny how #DarrelWalls is blessed and is man of God and he’s anointed and his music touches souls until y’all found out he’s gay, I hate to be the one to tell y’all but God didn’t just found out with us… which mean god know who tf he’s been blessing, let that skin in

Very sad and frustrating how messy the church can be. I see why some shy away from it. People commit suicide over being “outed.” We have to stop being so obsessed with one’s sexuality, and learn to operate in love, not gossip; souls are depending on it. Praying for Darrel Walls❤️

God honors those who live in their truth and I honor you for being vulnerable enough to include us in your walk. None of us are free until all of us are free 🏳️🌈💖💖💖

Despite deleting his Instagram, Darrel still has his Twitter active. He hasn’t commented on any of the drama but you can see one of his last posts below.
You Are Good, Oh Lord… You Are Good.

Here’s hoping that Darrel emerges stronger, greater, and more PRIDEFUL following these events!
