It’s a shame that in 2015, this is STILL an issue.
But be that as it may, we will celebrate this momentous occasion. UK beauty Jourdan Dunn breaks Vogue UK’s 12 year all-white streak by gracing the cover rocking a tussled blonde bob and a dress from Prada 2015 spring collection. Icon Naomi Campbell was the last black model to grace the cover solo back in 2002.
What took so long you may ask? Especially considering the fact that Dunn is one of my most recognizable models around next to her counterparts Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne, Doutzen Kroes, Natasha Poly and Chanel Iman. C’mon, the lady was handpicked by Queen B to be a part of her clique for the Yonce’ video.
Hopefully, the powers that be over at the British publication will pay attention to the overwhelmingly positive response, start a dialogue and use more models of color on its cover.
There is beauty in diversity.
