It looks like Remy Ma and Fat Joe’s joint album ‘Plata O Plomo’ have inspired their peers, as it was just announced that Trick Daddy and Trina are reuniting for an upcoming joint album.
The news comes weeks after it was reported that the pair had also linked up with Mona Scott and VH1 to launch a new Miami based ‘Love & Hip Hop’ series. That has yet to be confirmed.
Via Mass Appeal:
“Yesterday me and Trina signed a deal for a ‘Trick & Trina’ collabo album. So we bringing the city back,” Trick Daddy tells Mass Appeal. “I just want this Trick & Trina record to be classic. I’m going to turn the Diamond Princess back to the Baddest Bitch.”
Not only is it the first full-length by the “Shut Up” rapper in years, it’s their first ever long player collaboration. The untitled album is will drop on their original label, Slip N’ Slide Records/Atlantic Records. Trick and the imprint first teamed up with his sophomore album www.thug.com in 1997. (The titular hyperlink still points to the Slip N’ Slide site, if you were wondering.) Since 2006, Trick’s projects have been released independently.
Trina’s debut, Da Baddest Bitch, featured the title track single that eventually hit the #3 slot on Billboard’s Rap Charts. She went on to drop five albums, but the 2010 LP, Amazin’, was her last on Slip N’ Slide. The Diamond Princess recently released Dynasty 6, a mixtape meant to build hype for an upcoming solo album, slated to drop sometime this year.
“[The collaboration album is] just something the fans always wanted, and now we’re officially going to make it happen,” Slip N’ Slide CEO Ted Lucas says. “Trick put Miami on the map with gangsta music, which was different from all perspectives. When Miami was known for booty shaking, Trick was able to change the culture of what people thought about of Miami music, and Trina was able to put female rappers on the map. We’re excited about it, and looking forward to it.”
