Missy Elliott has had a legendary career that any artist could only aspire to have, and on Monday the icon received her latest honor further cementing her legendary status.
The superstar was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was on board with her closest friends and family to accept the coveted award in Los Angeles.
Ciara, Lizzo, Cece Penniston, Laurieann Gibson, and Missy’s longtime manager Mona Scott-Young were just some of her family and friends in attendance.
The emotional 50-year-old Grammy-winning performer took to the stage tearing up to accept the long-overdue honor. She used the opportunity to dedicate the moment to her “sisters in hip-hop,” including Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Sha-Rock, Angie Stone, Roxanne Shanté, Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, and Salt-N-Pepa.
“All of y’all who started before me ’cause y’all are the backs that we stand on, y’all are the foundation…Y’all ran so we could walk. Y’all stood up for something so we could sit comfortably, so I thank y’all for this moment.”
