Nicki Minaj had an instant winner with her Barbz when she released the Soulja Boy assisted ‘Yasss Bish’ a few weeks ago. The track instantly struck a cord in the biggest sector of her fans for the obvious reason, that the song played off of lingo that the gay community uses everyday. Nicki revealed that her idea from the song came from her love of watching ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’:

I live for the way they speak [on that show]. I think that derives from the way that world speaks. Females, we adopted it and it makes us feel very cocky and sexy and feminine. Saying ‘Yass’ as opposed to ‘Yes’ is just putting on a billion times more attitude to the word ‘yes.’ I’m confirming that you are the (expletive). Like…I see you wearing something and I say ‘Yass Bish Yass!’

Now Soulja Boy gives his thoughts on the song and embracing the gay culture. During an interview with Kyle Harvey of The Grio he revealed that Nicki originally was supposed to sing the flamboyant hook but she thought he would be better suited for the task.

“I’m comfortable enough to say ‘Yass,’” Soulja Boy said. “I didn’t even know it was a gay term. I’m around girls all the time, and they just kept saying ‘Yass.’ I’m not homophobic, so it wasn’t a problem for me either way.”
