New York, New York. Big city of dreams.
Each year there are thousands of talented hopefuls who flock to the big apple with the desire to be the next BIG THING. With sheer talent and drive there are some who lead the pack and designer Christopher Smith is one of them. This Virginia native has quickly found his niche in the fashion world with his label Vivre Desir. The story behind the name is quite interesting. “I love the statement “Live Learn” which I have tattooed on me. So I wanted to incorporate it in my line and make it a little sexy so I switched “Learn” with “Lust”. Then I thought it wouldn’t be so interesting as just “Live Lust” so I gave it some thought. I’m so in love with French films, fashion, etc. I figured why not have it in French font. So then, Voilà!”, Smith recounts.
The menswear label is a mix of t-shirts, hoodies, tanks and skull caps. He credits his own personal style and designer Rick Owens as inspiration behind the Vivre Desir brand. Like Owens, the line is a mix of dark glamour and grunge. Currently everything is done on special order which is good because Smith’s great use of leather and other textured fabrics give each item that one of a kind feel. His pieces have already graced a few fashion editorials and seen snapped up by a few NYC downtown elite. He hopes to one day have his pieces sold in Opening Ceremony. The prices range from $50-$200.
