Empire, Empire, Empire. TV’s best show in years (possibly ever) continues to sweep the ratings, and send its fans into pure pandemonium each week. Now the show’s soundtrack has made similar strides on the Billboard charts, is set to take the number one spot and of course is breaking records. According to Deadline:

Not only has the sales and streams of the freshman show beaten a musical icon (Madonna) for the top spot but the last time any TV soundtrack reached No. 1 on the charts was back in 2010, when three Glee collections hit the top spot (also a Fox show). Now those were covers of classics but for a TV soundtrack of tunes performed by the original artists – it’s been three decades since a network series turned the trick. You have to go all the way back to the first Miami Vice soundtrack, which spent 11 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 in 1985-86. Yes, a couple of Hannah Montana albums and High School Musical soundtracks topped in the chart in the mid-’00s, but they’re cable fodder.

The official numbers won’t be released until Wednesday morning, but initial reports have already confirmed the number one spot for the soundtrack, with Madonna’s ‘Rebel Heart’ behind it in the number 2 spot.

Some of the cast celebrated the soundtrack release on Monday night (March 16) at Stage 48 in NYC sponsored by Hennessy V.S. Jussie Smollett & Bryshere Gray and Raven Symone entertained 100’s of their fans as they hit the stage and performed some of the material from the album including everyone’s faves ‘Drip Drop’ and ‘You’re So Beautiful’.
