We told you previously that it wasn’t looking likely that Jay Ellis‘ character, Lawrence would return for the third season of ‘Insecure‘ which airs in just a few weeks.
The actor had previously confirmed during an interview with ‘The Breakfast Club’ that he had not been called in to shoot any scenes, and wasn’t quite sure where his character was going for the new season. Despite the sexy photo shoot that the entire male cast did for GQ just weeks ago, Jay was not likely returning based on the season 3 trailer.
Well now it has been confirmed that he indeed is out for season 3, as the writers will be focusing on Issa Rae‘s character, Issa and her life with her new situation.

Issa Rae and showrunner Prentice Penny and confirmed the news at this week’s Insecure Fest in Los Angeles.
“We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence,” said Issa,
“At the end of the day, we’re always trying to tell stories that are true and authentic. We were in the writers room and we were initially talking about, Okay, well what is he doing?… Well, he’s not in her life right now. It was hard to make stories around that.” It seems closure is closure for these two … at least for now. We just said, well, if he’s not around, he’s not around. Let’s just deal with the reality of what her life is now. Let’s be true to that, when you breakup and you have closure,” said Penny,
Ellis first revealed in a radio interview a few months back that he didn’t tape in the show. Then, neither the actor or his character were featured in the Season 3 trailer. Also at Insecure Fest, they revealed a greater focus would be on Y’lan Noel’s Daniel this season.
We’re sure #TeamLawrence will not be happy with this news, but we’re sure this won’t be the last time we will see him.
