Janet Jackson fans are rejoicing as the singer has now claimed her seventh number one album with the long overdue ‘Unbreakable’ which was just released on Friday (October 2). The final totals are not in but early forecasts place the albums sales totals in the upper 100k’s (100-110k sales, 103-113k including streaming) and places her at the top spot of the Hot 100. Janet Jackson is heading for her seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with Unbreakable. Industry forecasters suggest the set — which was released on Oct. 2 through the diva’s own Rhythm Nation label through BMG — may earn upwards of 100,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 8.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the Oct. 24-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Jackson will likely debut at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s Web sites on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Unbreakable is Jackson’s first studio album since 2008’s Discipline, which bowed atop the Billboard 200, selling 181,000 copies in its first week (according to Nielsen Music).
Jackson earlier led the Billboard 200 with All for You (in 2001), The Velvet Rope (1997), janet. (1993), Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) and Control(1986).
Kudos to Janet and the #JanFam #JTribe for getting the pop queen another no. 1 album. Janet fans also have another reason to celebrate as the albums success has given her another record only held by a very small circle of legendary acts. Janet serves as one of the only acts ever to have no. 1 albums in the 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s. Go on Ms. Jackson!
That’s not all! Janet also announced on Monday (October 6) that there will be additional dates added to her highly successful ‘Unbreakable’ World Tour. Jan will be venturing out to the UK for a few dates next Spring according to reports.
The UK leg will start on the 30th March 2016 at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena and play The O2 London on 31st March, The SSE Hydro in Glasgow on the 4th April, culminating at Manchester Arena on 5th April.
