While fans of Janet Jackson continue to wait with bated breath for her long-awaited ‘Black Diamond’ album that was delayed due to the pandemic, the singer is readying the re-release of another fan-fave album.
On Friday, October 7 the living legend and icon is set to release a 25th-anniversary deluxe version of her classic album ‘The Velvet Rope’ that will feature some rare previously unreleased tracks and rare remixes.
The original release served as Janet’s sixth studio album and arrived on October 7, 1997, and housed the singles ‘Got Til It’s Gone’ ft. Q-Tip, ‘I Get Lonely’ and more. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 202,000 copies in its first week and would go on to sell over 8 million copies worldwide.
According to a fresh press release, here’s what fans can expect from the re-release that arrives this Friday:
With 10 new-to-platform bonus tracks available on streaming platforms for the first time, it includes sought-after B-sides and remixes including two rarities, “Accept Me” and “God’s Stepchild.” The collection also houses multiple remixes—which were only available on CD singles prior.
These include Teddy Riley’s TNT Remix of “I Get Lonely” featuring BLACKstreet, the J. Dilla (Ummah Jay Dee) remix of “Got ‘Til It’s Gone”, and Timbaland/Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott’s remix of “Go Deep.” Also included are club mixes of various tracks by David Morales & Frankie Knuckles, Masters at Work, Tony Moran, Jason Nevins and Tony Humphries.
Fans can also expect remastered versions of the album’s visuals to arrive on YouTube for the first time in HD including “Go Deep,“ “I Get Lonely,” “You,” “Got ‘Til It’s Gone,“ and “Together Again [Deeper Remix].“
