Multi-talented actress, Jennifer Hudson, makes another dazzling appearance on Essence Magazine January cover rocking a electric blue fluffy sweater and and razor cut shoulder length bob. The Oscar winning has had a great 2013 with her winning praise in each role that she’s played. From stepping in the shoes of Winnie Mandela to the drugged out prostitute in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete. That role was very challenging for Hudson who for the first time was playing a character with such hardship and went to visit rehab centers to under more about drug addiction. Hudson can be currently seen in Black Nativity.
On the role of Gloria:
“It was a huge stretch for me to play Gloria. The drugs, the tattoos, the prostitution—her life is so different from my own.”
On playing Winnie Mandela:
“I was so nervous about doing a good job that I started working on the accent a couple of months before I even got there. So much was done to suppress Winnie’s voice, to keep her quiet…Winnie’s story needed to be told.”
On setting a wedding date with fiance David Otunga:
“Yes, there was a date set, and that date has come around again every year. In fact, the date may keep rolling around…when I’m ready to be married, I will be married. It’s that simple. Everyone should just chill. Our relationship is very strong. We’re both huge family people, and I’m only going to get married once. So I’m not rushing into anything.”
The issue hits stands tomorrow (Dec 6)
