Kanye West recently sat down with BBC radio for an hour long discussion on all things music and fashion. Of course as we all know when West open his mouths controversy is never too far behind. This time he’s speaking out against the Fendi brand and designer Hedi Slimane.

On his love for fashion:
“I’m a slave to it [fashion], I love it. I love it. I love it since age 5…it’s in my code!”
On why fashion is important:
“It’s illegal to be naked. It’s not illegal to not listen to music…That is something extremely important.”
On Fendi rejecting his leather jogging pants:
“Whether I’m at a dinner with Anna Wintour, or a listening party with Pusha-T or in Rome with Virgil [Abloh, West’s creative director], giving Fendi our designs and getting them knocked down … [We] brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said no … How many motherfuckers you done seen with a leather jogging pant?”
On Hedi Slimane being outdated for not looking to rap for inspiration:
“When I see Hedi Slimane, and it’s all like, okay, this is my take on the world. Yeah, he’s got some nice $5,000 jeans in there. It’s some nice ones here and there, some good shit here and there. But we culture. Rap the new rock and roll. We culture. Rap is the new rock and roll. We the rock stars … It’s been like that now for a minute, Hedi Slimane! It’s been like that now for a minute. We the rock stars, and I’m the biggest of all of them.”
On his passion for footwear and his Nike partnership:
“I’ve got a very particular specific take on men’s footwear. No one can say I cannot design or understand how to design a guy’s sneaker. When I was in 4th grade I was drawing Jordans when my mama couldn’t afford them…getting kicked out of class for drawing them…people didn’t love the Yeezys the way they did for no reason.”
On searching for a fashion breakthrough:
“All I need is the breakthrough, the joint venture for my clothing. Same as Stella McCartney has…I could name so many people that have joint ventures, a backing to be able to express themselves that way. OK bam. I need that.”
On T-shirt designing and his vision for the future:
“We’re making product with chitlins! T-shirts! That’s the most we can make! T-shits! We can have our best perspective on T-shirts! But if it’s anything else, your Truman show boat is hitting the wall…I wanna make uniforms for my high school basketball team. Through brand Yeezy. I wanna make that one step, and then make another step, and then eventually do uniforms for the entire city…I eventually wanna be the anchor of the first trillion dollar company.”
