It’s been six years since the highly publicized Jussie Smollett hate crime attack that took over headlines and dominated airwaves, social media, and news outlets.
The incident in which Jussie Smollett claimed to be the victim of a hate crime took place on January 29, 2019. He reported to the Chicago Police that he was attacked by two men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs, poured a chemical substance on him, and placed a rope around his neck.
It was later revealed that Smollett staged the attack, and the actor was found guilty of five felony counts of lying to the police and sentenced to 150 days in jail, probation, and fines.
However, in November 2024, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned Smollett’s conviction, citing prosecutorial issues. The actor has slowly moved past the scandal and returned to his career, but now Netflix is bringing the story back to the masses with a new documentary.
The mega streamer unveiled ‘The Truth About Jussie Smolett’ trailer, which features interviews with police, lawyers, journalists, and investigators who claim to have uncovered new evidence about the case, and with Jussie himself.
