Nicki Minaj has been engulfed in a lot of drama this week and it just keeps coming.
First, the rapper got into a heated back and forth with ex, Meek Mill over Twitter after Meek liked a picture on social media that poked fun at Nick’s new husband, Kenneth Petty.
The exchange got really nasty and spilled over into below the belt territory. In the midst of that drama, Nicki teased fans with a teaser for her new single ‘Yikes’ and a new scandal began brewing.
In the song, Nicki references the civil rights icon in a disrespectful manner with the line: “All you bitches Rosa Parks..Uh oh, get your ass up…”
The line caught the attention of the Parks family and they issued an official statement on the matter.
Anita Peek, Executive Director at the institute who worked closely with Parks prior to her passing, [says] … if Rosa were alive today, she’d be extremely hurt by Minaj taking her bus protest — one of the most significant moments of the Civil Rights Movement — and putting a negative spin on it for a song, even if she was just trying to be clever or funny.Peek says there is absolutely nothing funny about segregation in America and suggests Nicki should have known better than to include lyrics people would consider disrespectful.
One of those people is William McCauley, Parks’ nephew [says] … “It was both heart breaking and disrespectful that Nicki Minaj would have a lyric in a song that can be used negatively when mentioning someone who provided her the freedoms that she has today.”
To make matters worse, the snippet arrived the day before the late Mrs. Parks’ birthday.
To add insult to injury, Nicki debunked claims that she had issued an apology to the family and said the song’s release and lyric was “bad timing.”
Nick took to her Instagram stories to not only shut that down but to say she was NOT sorry and didn’t care who was offended.
