We are a little behind on this one, but better late than never. While on her promo run for the controversial new film ‘Blackbird’ actress Mo’Nique stopped by ‘The Breakfast Club’ last Friday April 24 and during her visit she gave one of the most fun interviews she’s done since the entire ‘Blackball/Lee Daniels/’Empire’ fiasco started.
Mo’Nique dished on the new film and taking on the topic of homophobia in the black community, and she reveals while promoting the project at different film festivals she realized just how much homophobia still exists in other cultures and demographics other than the black community.
She also promoted her other upcoming film, ‘Bessie‘ an HBO biopic centered around legendary blues singer, Bessie Smith, which debuts on Saturday, May 16 and also stars Tika Sumpter and Queen Latifah as Bessie.
She also touched on her drastic weight loss and says her husband was the inspiration behind the lifestyle changes she made. Although she still struggles with her eating choices, she says her goal is only to be healthy and not to be skinny.
Of course she briefly addressed her fall out with Lee Daniels, and the entire ‘Empire’ fiasco regarding whether she was or was not offered the role of Cookie Lyon. She gave major props to Taraji P. Henson and cleared the air on the situation. Overall a very delightful watch, and less intense as some of her recent interviews which were dominated by the ‘blackball’ talk.
