Despite years of being blackballed, , Janet Jackson’s drive, legacy, stats and impact in entertainment and the world cannot and will not be denied.
Though her ‘State of the World Tour’ was a critically acclaimed and financial success in every market and is preparing to go out on a second trek, the singer had not graced the stage on live TV in over nine years–until last Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards.
Janet received the ‘Icon Award’ presented by Bruno Mars, and hit the stage to perform some of her fan fave tracks followed by a subtle yet powerful and relevant speech. The moment was the most anticipated portion of the night, and had social media in a frenzy and still buzzing days later.
Now, less than a week out, Janet has seen a major jump in record sales. According to Billboard, the Queen of Pop collected a 939 percent sales gain for the three songs she performed at the awards: “Nasty,” “If” and “Throb.” Final sales and streaming totals will be released in the coming days.
