And just like that… Jill Scott is back outside, and back in our speakers.
Today marks the release of To Whom This May Concern, her first full studio album in over a decade — and her sixth studio album overall.
It’s been more than 10 years since 2015’s Woman, and anticipation has been building ever since. But Jill didn’t rush this. She lived. She evolved. She gathered stories. And now she’s delivering a 19-track body of work rooted in love, reflection, growth, and that signature spoken-word-meets-neo-soul magic only she can give.
From the early singles like “Pressha” and “Beautiful People,” it was clear this era would be true to Jill’s signature sound with warm instrumentation, layered vocals, and poetry woven into melody.
The album features collaborations with artists like Ab-Soul, J.I.D, Tierra Whack, and Too $hort, blending generations and styles while still centering Jill’s unmistakable voice. Production credits include heavy hitters like DJ Premier, Om’Mas Keith, Adam Blackstone, Camper, and more — giving the project texture that ranges from jazz-leaning grooves to soulful hip-hop influences.
The album comes on the heels of a stream of promo stops, including a surprise performance at Noochie’s Live From The Front Porch which dropped earlier this week.
She also visited The Breakfast Club to dish on the new album and more.
Not many artists can step away for a decade and come back sounding this grounded, this purposeful, and this necessary.
To Whom This May Concern is out now, and if you love real R&B, grown-folk soul, and storytelling that actually says something, this one’s for you.
