Childish Gambino‘s mega hit ‘This Is America‘ has become not only his most successful release to date, but literally a cultural phenomenon in less than a month. Now the song has officially reached platinum status.
The single was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. According to reports, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks following its May 7 debut on “Saturday Night Live.” The track has also enjoyed global success, debuting at No. 1 on Spotify’s global and U.S. charts and hitting No. 1 on iTunes in 45 markets. Additionally, it remains No. 1 on the Overall Streaming Chart for three weeks in a row.
The video sits currently at No. 1 on YouTube’s U.S. Top Music Videos. The video was watched 85.3 million times in its first week on YouTube, marking the biggest first week debut of any video this year. Currently the visual has been watched over 217 million times.
