Following their ill fated Aaliyah biopic, Liftetime Network was on the sh** list of many, and was banned in the minds of many from further making any biopics. Alas, they pumped out two more on Whitney Houston and Toni Braxton, which were much better received.
Well now, the network reportedly is set to tackle the rise to fame and life of another pop music diva, Britney Spears. The news comes just before Britney is set to perform this weekend at the MTV Video Music Awards, and release her new album ‘Glory’ next week. Via THR:
Days ahead of the pop star’s latest record release, the female-skewing cable network has set a TV movie biopic focused on the singer, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Natasha Bassett (Hail, Cesar)will star as Spears in Britney, which will detail what Lifetime described as the “tumultuous true story” of her rise to fame, fall from grace and triumphant resurrection.
The two-hour movie will follow Spears’ early career as a young girl from Louisiana, relationship and breakup with Justin Timberlake as well as her personal struggles following her parents’ divorce. Also set to be examined are her marriages to Jason Alexander, Kevin Federline and her downfall that saw her lose custody of her sons before she rebuilt her career and proved herself to be a force in entertainment.
Production will begin Sept. 19 in Vancouver for a 2017 premiere. Are you here for the Britney biopic? In the meantime, check out snaps of the young actress that will play the pop princess.
